Wait! Wait! Hold Up! Stop the Press! Let’s discuss something that really confuses me… You spend $72,000. on an undergraduate degree…WHY AREN’T YOU USING IT? We go in debt to make ourselves more ‘marketable’ and to ultimately begin the career of our dreams….yet you rely on ‘alternative’ jobs to ‘get by’ because we don’t want to hustle to bring our dreams to fruition. Now let’s look at reality… After about 3 or 4 years in college certain employers won’t hire you because you have too much education. Honestly a college education doesn’t mean much in this economy - you have people with 3 degrees and 15 to 25 years’ experience out of jobs, networking and hustling to get where they need to be…
Lights on yet?
To become competitive in your field not only do you have to STUDY but you have to personally invest time into learning YOUT craft outside of the classroom. A college undergraduate degree means your competent…NOT that you are actually prepared for your given field. Experience is the ONLY true teacher… Practicum gives you hands on experience in the field, serves as a resume booster, sharpens your skills and give you a background inside look on what you can expect.
But what does this take?
HUSTLE, DRIVE, DETERMINATION and NETWORKING.
Do you have it? If not….maybe you should reconsider this whole ‘college student’ thing? Quit before you’re ahead perhaps? This isn’t to deter anyone from going to college but let’s be honest; College ISN’T for EVERYONE…and the fight for a career is for even less… If you’re not prepared to completely commit to this life and do what it takes to get ahead - from working for free, staying up till 5am in an office redoing assignments for an 8am deadline, maybe even taking your boss to lunch to get more insight on the field - then maybe you aren’t built for this.
